OUR HISTORY

The origin of the Foundation

Beyond Labels Foundation was born from the heartfelt vision of Ms. Kesegofetse Tatedi, a champion of inclusion and a firm believer in the transformative power of sports and the arts. Raised in Botswana and shaped by her experiences both locally and internationally, Ms. Tatedi saw firsthand how opportunities for growth and expression were often limited especially for those living with disabilities, women, young people living in remote areas, and other disadvantaged individuals.

While studying Sport Science at the University of Botswana, and later earning her Master’s Degree in Sports Management from Seoul National University in South Korea, she was deeply inspired by how other countries used sport and creative engagement not only for physical development but as tools for social inclusion, healing, and empowerment. Upon returning home, Ms. Tatedi recognized a gap of inclusion: many marginalized individuals in Botswana particularly children in foster care, women and girls facing social exclusion, people with disabilities, and under-served youth in rural communities had little to no access to structured, inclusive and empowerment activities. She realized that these individuals were not just left out of play, they were left out of opportunities for connection, confidence-building, and personal growth.
Fueled by passion and a bold commitment to equity, she established Beyond Labels Foundation as a platform to confront this gap head-on. Her vision was clear: to create inclusive, accessible, and dignified spaces where every person, regardless of their background or ability, could explore their potential, discover their voice, and feel a true sense of belonging. Under Ms. Tatedi’s leadership, the foundation continues to challenge social stigmas, uplift marginalized voices, and build bridges of hope and opportunity through the universal languages of movement and creativity.
